Vampires Guide to Forks
The newest and best Twilight app!
If you haven’t already, resolve to visit Forks, WA- the small town near the Olympic rain forest that is home of the Twilight Saga. And when you travel to Forks, bring your iPhone and the Vampires Guide to Forks! This app uses the iPhone’s mapping technology to create a surreal catalog and map of Twilight points of interest, hotels, and other notable locations. Imagine yourself walking down main street, shopping at the Forks Outfitters, driving through the side streets, listening to stories at the First Beach and playing baseball in the rain forest. These experiences have been described by Stephanie Meyer as “walking around inside of a dream”. As you are exploring, your iPhone indicates that you are just around the corner from a very important Twilight setting. With photos and notes, and interactive maps, this app will take you there whether in a dream or in person. The woods are lovely, dark and deep.

How to get to Forks from Vancouver, BC:
-If you’re in Vancouver for the Winter Olympics, take an extra couple of days to hit Forks! The coolest way to get from Vancouver to Forks is to take the ferry to Vancouver Island, drive through Sidney and Victoria and take another ferry to Port Angeles. Then follow 101 the mountains and Lake Crescent until you reach Forks. (The iPhone app can assist you in navigating this!) Depending on the ferry wait times, it could take 5 or 6 hours.
How to get to Forks from Seattle, WA:
-The most direct way is to drive to the Edmonds Ferry Terminal, take the Ferry to Kingston and then drive 104, across the Hood Canal Bridge, until you hit Highway 101. Then follow 101 through Sequim, Port Angeles, the Lake Crescent until you reach Forks. This will probably take you 4 hours. (The iPhone app can assist you in navigating this!)
-If you don’t want to take the ferry, you could drive south to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and then north again on Highway 16 until you reach Bremerton. Take Highway 3 north until you get to the Hood Canal Bridge. Take 104 across the Hood Canal Bridge until you merge with Highway 101. Then follow 101 through Sequim, Port Angeles, the Lake Crescent until you reach Forks. If you are already in South Seattle or Renton and there is no traffic, this will probably take you 4 hours. (The iPhone app can assist you in navigating this!)
How to get to Forks from Portland, OR:
-Take I-5 north like you are driving to Seattle. About 25 minutes north of Centralia, take Highway 12 towards Aberdeen. (Aberdeen is where Kurt Kobain is from so many people stop at the “Come as you are” sign for a quick photo.) Highway 12 will merge with 101 North, which you can follow all the way to Forks. (The iPhone app can assist you in navigating this!) It will probably take you 5 and a half hours, depending on how fast you drive.

Developers Notes: I had an awesome time putting this app together. The drive from Seattle to Forks takes a few hours but it’s definitely worth it. As you can see from within the app, the leg from Port Angeles to Forks is about 90 minutes but you go through Crescent Lake- seeing the mountains rise up out of the lake is breathtaking. Definitely plan for some extra time here, the Hoh Rain Forest, and First Beach. These places will speak to you wether you are Jacob, Edward, or not even a Twilight fan.
I’ll be pushing a few free updates this spring and hope to include more recommendations on places to stay. The resorts right on the Quileute river and the beach look totally awesome and I can’t wait to stay there.
Let me know if you have any recommendations by tweet: @urbanapp. And, thanks for trying my app!

I wish this worked with the itouch!!!
The next free update will include Touch support and add a bunch of new features. The current wasn’t designed enabled for Touch because it uses the data connection and GPS for some of it’s features. I’m not sure why iTunes still lets you buy it if you don’t have a Touch, so we’re sorry if that happened to you. Look for the update in about 2-3 weeks. We’re also planning on an iPad optimized version, too!
